SUMMARY:“Unpacking Race and Racism: Becoming White Allies 2.0”
DESCRIPTION:During “Unpacking Race and Racism: Becoming White Allies 2.0\,” you join other white people in a small group to sit at the feet of a black man\, Emmanuel Acho. Through the words in his book and his video series\, Uncomfortable Conversations With A Black Man\, you learn what you didn’t know you didn’t know. Join others who completed Unpacking in saying\, “I can’t unsee what I saw.” This program is more than a book study. It is designed to take you on a journey to uncover your passion for racial equity and to identify and engage a racial equity project that is a perfect fit for you. The “Unpacking Race And Racism 2.0: Becoming White Allies” program was created by The Unity Center and is offered through The AntiRacism Institute. It picks up where traditional diversity training leaves off. Rather than simply identifying “good versus bad” behaviors\, this program deepens participants’ awareness of their personal responsibility\, their understanding of the systemic roots of racism\, and equips them to take action toward racial equity.

SUMMARY:Still\, We Rise!: A Theatrical Event
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, on Sunday\, February 27\, 2022\, The AntiRacism Institute will present “Still\, We Rise!”\, a theatrical event produced by the La Jolla Theatre Ensemble and Common Ground Theatre\, sharing the works of African-American poets Amanda Gorman\, Langston Hughes\, and Maya Angelou\, performed by Yolanda Franklin and Ernie McCray\, and featuring the Music of the Rob Thorsen Trio. It will be a live in-person event\, also live-streamed and recorded for future purposes. “Still\, We Rise!” is an opportunity to promote the talents of Black artists\, create broader awareness of The AntiRacism Institute\, educate people about the issues inherent in the Black-lived experience (entertainment can be a powerful educational tool!)\, and raise some needed funding for The Institute.
