How we got here
2017-18 – “Brave Conversations”
Black-only three-hour monthly meetings (except for White host Reverend Wendy Craig-Purcell) for six months; authentic sharing of tender and tragic stories of living Black in America; culminates in Black guidance to invite Whites only to learn deeply about racism.
2019 – “White Allies”
2019-2020 – “Braver Conversations Together”
Black and White meetings developing a program of monthly events to expose the broader community to the realities of modern racism and inspire action (abruptly canceled due to the pandemic).
2020 – “Virtual White Allies Group”
Five-session program of weekly zoom meetings, similar to White Allies; due to web-based format, attracts 130 participants from 21 states and three Canadian provinces.
2020 – George Floyd’s murder
Prompts a passionate anti-racist donor to contribute funds for establishing a new nonprofit focused on racial equity; The AntiRacism Institute is incorporated.
2021 – “Unpacking Race And Racism”
Seven-session program of weekly Zoom meetings for Whites, adding two new components: White Ally Core Competencies and participants’ own Racial Equity Project; The Institute receives its 501(c)3 nonprofit status.
2022 – “Unpacking Race and Racism 2.0” runs April through June
The Institute undertakes rebranding and name is changed to RacEquity360.
